HLT Announces 2014-15 Season and Schedule

Hanover Little Theatre (HLT) will mix old favorites with new offerings in the four shows planned for its 66th season, set to kick off in September 2014 with an asked-for second matinee for all shows.

The 2014-15 season will feature three plays and one musical. The Neil Simon classic “Barefoot in the Park” will start the season followed by always-funny A.R. Gurney’s comedy “Sylvia.” The second half of the season will open with “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” a comedy written by Academy and Emmy winner Alan Ball. “Bingo! The Winning Musical” from Michael Heitzman, Ilene Reid and David Holcenberg will end the season on “winning” note.

In addition to including two “new” shows in the season, HLT has also added a second Sunday matinee, after hearing from its patrons. The HLT Board of Directors decided that shows will now open on a Friday night and continue on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon on the first weekend, then the second weekend of performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with the new second Sunday matinee serving as the finale for the run of each show.

Tickets will remain, for the third straight year, $12 for plays and $14 for musicals with discounts available for seniors, students and groups of 10 or more. Theatre memberships include ticket vouchers for the season and offer many benefits, including priority ticketing before sales to the general public. Information is available at www.hanoverlittletheatre.com.

An experienced group of directors have signed up for the 2014-15 season. Robert Brown will direct “Barefoot in the Park,” Neil Simon’s romantic comedy about a couple of newlyweds who discover what it’s really like to share a New York apartment. This marks the third-time the Tony-nominated show has come to HLT with productions in 1967 and 1997. Shows will run Sept. 12-14 and 18-21, 2014.

Sally Chase will direct “Sylvia” for the second time. She also helmed a 2008 production of the comedy that chronicles the funny and sometimes touching “problems” that arise when a couple adopts a dog. Shows will run Nov. 14-16 and 20-23, 2014.

Jeremy Slagle will direct his first HLT show when “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” takes the stage April 10-12 and 16-19, 2015. This new-to-HLT comedy showcases the foibles of five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids trying to avoid the ostentatious wedding reception. As the day wears on, the women discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of spirit.

Charlie Beard will bring “Bingo! The Winning Musical” to toe-tapping life July 10-12 and 16-19. The camaraderie, competition and quirks of everyone’s favorite game will take over the stage with chances for audience members to fill their own card each night as the cast belts out soon-to-be classics like “Gentleman Caller” and “Under My Wing.”

HLT is Hanover’s only all-volunteer community theatre. All shows are produced at HLT’s playhouse at 360 Blooming Grove Road. Auditions will take place about 10 weeks prior to each show. Information about memberships, ticketing and volunteer opportunities will be available on the theatre’s website at www.hanoverlittletheatre.com or visit the theatre’s Facebook page.
